Yaane sighed and looked around. He saw Narima huddled in a corner close to the forest, hugging her knees close to her chest.

“Hey Narima, the smart girl. You have always found creative solutions to our problems. Now can you think of how we might proceed?

Narima the Cunning, as she was known, thought a while and then replied confidently:

Oh great Yaane, I feel honored that you are asking me for my opinion. The Unconscious are catapulting the world towards destruction. Air and ocean pollution contaminates soil and water, kills crops and reduces their yield, affects the health of all, lowers reproductive rates and leads to unprecedented global warming. As sea levels rise, habitats are eroded, and lives are lost; eventually the earth as we know and those living on it, Consciences and Unconscious alike, will be destroyed”.

Garuda nodded in agreement:

Yes, and the Unconscious are aware of it. There are multiple research studies and projections on this subject and yet, those in power, especially in the larger and more powerful nations, do not care about the future; their focus is on political power, money, and maintaining control today.” (*1)

Narima took a deep breath and started talking again.

Doing nothing and staying away as we have done for so long is no longer an option. I agree with the elders who spoke before me;  our actions must be  strong enough to make the Unconscious realize their mistakes. In the past Mother has reminded us of our mistakes using forces of nature, such as tsunamis and flooding. But the Unconscious are too ignorant to realize the true meaning behind these events.

As Garuda pointed out the Unconscious have developed many deadly weapons of their own. But we have no such weapons. I am not sure what action we could take that will make them reflect rather than retaliate.

The audience shuddered at the thought of the past attacks from the Unconscious that they had encountered. There was a collective sigh from the attendees and listeners across the world.

Bubo looked around the frightened audience and spoke slowly.

There was once a wise soul who was asked to explain pain and suffering. The enlightened explained it as the Four Noble Truths. They are the noble truths of suffering, the cause of suffering, the cessation of suffering and the path to the cessation of suffering.”

As Bubo described each of the truths, Bharathi explained the truth to her people.

The Unconscious suffer because, over time, they have taken the path of individual satisfaction and gratification over common good.  They have invented false concepts such as money and religion and use them as a tool to differentiate and discriminate. This results in endless suffering. The cessation of suffering can happen when the Unconscious realize the impact of the destructive actions they are taking and strive to set right their actions; when they work towards restoration of nature and environment and for the good of all.”

Yaane turned to Bubo, and asked “What was the Enlightened Soul’s Fourth Truth? What is the path to the cessation of suffering?

Bubo sighed. “The Enlightened Soul believed too much in the ability of human beings. The Enlightened Soul believed that each life has to understand the truth and set the path right. Unfortunately the followers of the Enlightened Soul converted their belief into a religion and made a God out of the Enlightened Soul! Sad but true – they are now killing people of other religions in the name of God!”

Narima hastily interjected, “So there is no way we can stop this destruction?

Bubo continued, “The Enlightened also told us that suffering can only be cured by undergoing suffering.

Perplexed, Garuda asked “What did he mean by that?

To understand what he meant, we cannot rely on the ways and means of the Unconscious. We need to look to ancestral wisdom. Our ancestors and those of the Unconscious were told by Mother that when evil prevails, when the world is darkened by sin and greed, when there is no sign of hope, there will be an ultimate choice. The world can choose to remain on the path of extinction or opt for an alternate path of total redirection. She referred to this choice as Kalki.”

A grave silence ensued. The legend of Kalki had been handed down all through the ages. All the participants had heard of the legend though they were not clear what the concept was.

Bharathi, who had been listening, took a deep breath. She also had heard of the Prophecy.  She saw the puzzled look on the faces of her people. She knelt down in silent prayer to Mother and then started explaining the Prophecy to her people:

A harbinger of the apocalypse, it is believed that Kalki will bring about the destruction of  evil when earthlings have completely abandoned caring for Mother Earth and fellow lives for the sake of money and power; when even the so called religious leaders are the reservoirs of mental distress, disease, old age, destruction of religious principles, sorrow, lamentation, and fear; when people are misguided by the influence of time, very restless by nature, full of lustful desires, extremely sinful, very proud, and violent even to their own parents and children.”

Narima asked, ” Well respected sir, is not Kalki the end of the world?”

Bubo responded, “No, Narima, that is a common misconception. Kalki is the ultimate option provided to earthlings to redirect their destiny and save the world. Of course, as the Enlightened pointed out, suffering has to be endured before suffering can be cured. Many lives will be lost, the Unconscious way of life, as it is practiced today will come to an end, if not forever, at least for a duration. Many will be kept in isolation, away from their near and dear, to suffer in loneliness. But that will also give them an opportunity to look back on how they have been rapidly hurling themselves towards destruction, to realize how it is not enough to take care of oneself, but it is necessary to take care of their families, their communities, their unfortunate fellow beings and the environment.”

Garuda interjected, “But then, how will it end? Will it not end in total destruction?

Bubo replied, “My understanding is that the Earthlings will suffer, but will have sufficient time to reflect on the past and to rectify the issues. And if they do, we all, The Consciences and the Unconscious will have a new lease on life.   If, on the other hand, the Unconscious get back to their old ways of life, that may be the end of the earth. However, I have full confidence in the Unconscious. They have brilliant minds that can not only work out solutions to resolve whatever problems they face, but also to understand what the long term solution is. I do not have any more details than that to give you.”

Yaane asked, “Please enlighten me, who can take the decision to activate Kalki and who knows how to carry it out?”

Bubo said, “As per the legend, the custodianship of Kalki resides with the Consciences. However, the responsibility is split. It is our responsibility to decide if the day of reckoning has arrived and Yaane, you as our mentor will have the final word once we agree. The responsibility to unleash Kalki, I understand, has been bestowed on a remote Conscience collective, whose elders traditionally pass on the burden to the next generation. When the time comes, the elders of the collective will come forth. “

The group fell into pin drop silence as each reflected on Bubo’s words.

Finally, Yaane stepped forth and announced, “Let us pray for Mother’s guidance and establish a consensus.”

The assembled Consciences, those on the wavecall, the Unconscious listening in, all stayed still with eyes closed.

The rain came from all directions. Thunder split the sky. Lightning lit up the shore and forest. The wind whined and shook up the forest. The giant waves started out in the depths of the ocean and, as they traveled up and spread, they built up higher and higher. Walls of water rose and banged on the shores. Finally the rain cleared and the Sun rose on the eastern sky.

Yaane spoke up.

We have agreed, albeit with heavy hearts. Kalki is our only resort.”

The air suddenly became still, the waves stopped rolling.

In far corners of the world, in the oldest monastery in the world in a remote spot in Tibet, in Abbeys in Europe and Russia, in a remote quarter in the Vatican, in the Kaaba in Mecca, in a Synagogue in Jerusalem, in the abodes of the Great Spirit in the Native American lands, in a cave in the Himalayas, in a temple in Southern India, the few remaining real spiritual leaders of the Unconscious stopped their activities and knelt down in prayer.

Bianfu, the elder from the Bianfus community, slowly stepped forward.

Many of you may not know us. We are a condemned community living in the dark caves of Central Asia. Maybe because of our unimpressive looks, our insignificant presence, our lowly stature, Mother bestowed us with the most important task of caring for Kalki.”

She paused.

“Kalki is the ultimate weapon of nature, more powerful than weapons invented by the Unconscious. Kalki is more powerful than the Tsunami or the earthquake. Kalki can, in a very short span of time change the way of life, make the Unconscious isolate themselves and think of their irresponsible actions and how to reverse them. However with the blessing of Tàiyáng shén, the Sun God, Kalki will slowly wane giving the Unconscious an opportunity to wake up in a brave new world.

We have carried this burden for centuries. It is time to unburden ourselves. We bow before you all and accept the responsibility of unleashing Kalki, as we understand it is our responsibility to do so. We pray to Mother for her forgiveness.”

Yaane gave the final word.

Oh, my dear friends, what a great responsibility. You are doing it for all of us. So you shall not be punished by Mother for this. We wish you good luck.”

Yaane took a deep breath.

“ However, in doing so, we are breaking a commitment to our mother to not to harm the Unconscious. It is only just that someone takes the responsibility for the crime and is punished. As the oldest member of the Collective Conscience, I assume full responsibility“.

So saying, Yaane raised his trunk and let out a long, mournful trumpet,  echoed by the other elephants in the forest. He lay down and closed his eyes. A sudden lightning seemed to hit him between the ears. With a final shudder, Yaane lay limp.

The other animals in the congregation bowed one after another before the Great Yaane and started dispersing in silence . The sea lives respectfully threw spouts of water onto the inert body.

Bharathi and her fellow Sentilenese started their forty day mourning ceremony for Yaane. Over this period, they would bury Yaane and start a consolation counseling process for his fellow elephants.

Narima, the fox, Simha, the lion and the other land animals withdrew into the forest.

Nyangumi and his whale pod and Sura and her fellow sharks started their long swim back to their habitats.

Garuda, the eagle, started on his long flight back to Washington. The other birds flew away on their migratory paths.

Bubo, the owl from Siberia, felt he was too old to fly back.  Exhausted by the proceedings, he decided to stay back in the Andamans.

The Evakis, the bats of New Mexico, returned home with mixed feelings.

Bianfus, the bats of China, appointed with the burden of releasing Kalki, began their return journey back home to start their mission.

The COVID19 virus infected the people of Wuhan, China on November 27th and in three months had spread all over the world‘.
